Philip Heseltine was born in London in 1894 he composed many English songs under the pseudonym Peter Warlock. Many aspects of his life are obscure, but it is known that he formed a friendship with the poet Bruce Blunt, a Brandean resident, and that together they wrote the carol "Bethlehem Down" and the song "The Fox" inspired by the Fox Inn at Bramdean.
